If you are looking for beautiful picture books for kids with gorgeous illustrations I've got the perfect list for you. There is something so special about cuddling up for story time, and as a parent being able to read a book with wonderful storytelling is a huge added bonus. After reading countless picture books here are my absolute favorites.
Today by Julie Morstad - For a period of time this book was a daily read with my little girl. This book is so interactive, with each page giving lots of choices about what you might want to do today. We would pour over the gorgeous illustrations as she chose things like what to wear, eat for breakfast, and what activities we should do today. We read this book so many times we had to repair the binding with a bit of tape. I love this beautiful book and so have my children.
Ruby Red Shoes: A Very Aware Hare by Kate Knapp - This story is beautifully illustrated and follows Ruby, a hare who loves her ruby red shoes. She lives with her grandmother who teaches her to treat everyones feelings with care, how to respect all living things, and how to create a living space that is cozy and inviting to everyone. In the second and third books, Ruby Red Shoes Goes to Paris and Ruby Red Shoes Goes to London, we continue to follow Ruby and her Grandmother as they travel. These books are gorgeous and written with beautiful lessons seamlessly flowing throughout the story.
Little Witch Hazel: A Year in the Forest by Phoebe Wahl - Join Little Witch Hazel as she helps her fellow forest dwellers in every season of the year. This book has exquisite and rich illustrations with a lovely story to go along with it. It's definitely a book worth revisiting again and again.
All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon - This is a lovely simple story about the beauty of the world around us. Through simple words it really invites readers to slow down and notice all the things with joy and acceptance. This book will capture even the youngest of readers because of its simplicity.
The Adventures of Lily Huckleberry by Audrey Smit - Lily Huckleberry is a little girl who loves to go on adventures around the world, Scandinavia, Japan, Mexico, The United States and Around the World. These books are educational and so cute. New books come with an adventure patch. These books can be difficult to find to ordering them straight from the website is probably the best option.
Stars by Mary Lyn Ray - Stars come out at night when it begins to get dark, but stars also appear in many other places. This book is such a unique story and its beauty is in its simplicity. It's one of those books that I think is pure brilliance and I love reading it with my kids.
Mice Skating by Annie Silvestro - A little mouse loves the snow and wants her friends to love it just as much as her. After a few failed attempts she finally finds a way to share her love of the winter with the people she loves. With it's attractive illustrations and beautiful writing this is a lovely book to share with the people you love. If you love this book you might also love the second book Sugar and Spice and Everything Mice.
The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman - A mother has seven children who all have unique appetites. In fact they all only eat one thing. Their mother tries their best but seven meals a day becomes a bit hard to handle. Can their favorite meals make something special for their mother. This book is very silly and as a parent makes me laugh at the lengths we go to for our children.
